This month's Blog Hop challenge was to use something springy. I'm pretty sure most of my recent cards are fairly springy--I'm a transplanted California girl who gets tired of winter easily. But I have to say, I love these colors together. They are happy and soothing all at the same time. Enjoy! Here are a couple of 4 1/4" square cards again. I was playing with PTI's Flower Garden, using white ink and some Sakura Stardust pens. So sparkly... For this second one, I used the chalkboard technique again (stamping with white ink, then pouncing pastel chalks on top). After that, I used my Sakura Stardust pens to give a little shimmer. Fun, fun. Another category for GSS was "best stationery". I didn't do stationery per se, but I do make a lot of monogram cards, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Oh well, there's always next time. This card uses Guide Lines (I eyeballed the placement, since I didn't want the lines to show). I heat embossed the white pattern, and I love it how the 1 3/8" circle punch fits right inside. These two cards use the vine image from With Sympathy, heat embossed. The first one is on Ocean Tides (on white), and the second is on Berry Sorbet (on cream). I think any sentiment could be substituted for the monogram. Enjoy!
Papertrey Ink has a little contest each month called Guest Star Stamper . There are usually 3 categories for the entries--using the most recently released stamp sets, and one for an old favorite. I didn't win anything, but here are 3 of my entries for "best sympathy". I'll post my other entries next. I heat embossed the vine image from With Sympathy, and I just love how it looks, especially on dark paper. I should've ordered these better, but the top and bottom ones are using PTI's Ocean Tides, and the middle one is SU Not Quite Navy. The Ocean Tides ones are matted on Vintage Cream paper, and the NQN is on white. My embossing powder is schizophrenic...
I've felt the need to play with bright colors lately--maybe it's the California girl in me rebelling against winter or something. Here are two cards I made yesterday after much staring and repositioning. Do you ever do that? It drives me crazy, but I do it all the time. Then I end up not entirely happy with my results. Take these cards, for instance...I'm not sure how I feel about them, but I do love the open polka dots. You may recognize this layout...I just used some bright colors this time. They are hard to see, but I also stamped polka dots on the onesie. I just love that Bitty Baby Blessings set. It's just the right style for me. Now this one...Hmm. I tried and tried and tried--different color combos and configurations, and I finally told myself to just stop it. I wanted to use this blingy brad that Jenn gave to me (along with many other goodies) when I went to her house, and I thought it made a cute center for a Maya Road flower. It all went downhil
I thought I'd try my hand at some square cards today (4 1/2" square). I guess I hadn't realized that I could use the same envelopes for these cards as the regular A2 size, but thanks to all the smarty-pants ladies on the PTI forum who know everything already, I can! The first card is a little like my very first post, except I cut out each duck from Lemon Tart paper and glued them onto my polka-dotted water. This second one morphed out of my first Dawn McVey challenge attempt. I just couldn't get it to work on an A2 card, so I tried a square. Much better. I "rock & rolled" the flower in SU Summer Sun, then PTI Berry Sorbet. The stems are SU Glorious Green, stamped off once first. Enjoy! I thought I'd post a few more cards I made a while ago, using Guide Lines--a great background-building set. Depending on the combination or orientation of the little stamps, the results can be dramatically different from card to card. I usually don't like the lines to show, so I stamp the grid with Versamark. It shows up just enough for me to line things up, but almost disappears when it's done. I love this scrolly image... For this first card, I stamped with white pigment ink onto brick red cardstock (from Michael's--it's too thin, but it's the perfect color. I've been searching high and low for a good brick red). Here is the reverse...Michael's had a generic brick red inkpad to match the cardstock. It's not the best quality, but it's a great color. I also stamped and heat embossed the sentiment onto the ribbon (Mike's again). Same thing in PTI's Berry Sorbet. The satin ribbon was a little trickier to emboss, but it turned out f
Here is my entry for one last challenge for PTI's 2nd Anniversary. The challenge is to use a color combination like Dawn McVey did this week with her projects. She creates stunning combinations of color--pairings that I am frankly too chicken to use, so I played it safe this time. I don't have Melon Berry yet, but I used Berry Sorbet and Summer Sunrise. They are delicious together in real life, but very difficult to capture on camera. Alas, after many tries and a little Picassa magic, this is the best approximation I could do. You'll just have to trust me on this. It looks so much better in person. I added little dots of white Souffle pen (it puffs up when it dries--very fun) to tie in with the white card base and tag. Today's challenge at PTI is to make a card for our best friend. This one is for my very (insert every positive superlative here) and dear friend, Sherri. I just love that girl. She makes me a better person, and I love the fact that over the course of just a few minutes, we can go from silly to spiritual, and not skip a beat. We are two transplanted California girls, living on the East Coast, so we look out for each other. Sherri loves these happy colors, so I thought I'd indulge her. Thanks to Jenn, I now have a few sheets of Spring Moss cardstock (don't ask me why I haven't gotten that color yet), which I used to mat the sentiment (words are from SU's Amazing to Zany set, which I don't use often enough, and the "friend" was masked from PTI's Believe). I also thought the left side needed a little charm, so I cut a flower from some leftover paper, punched a hole with my paper piercer, and hung it from a tiny strip of ribbon. Here's a clo
Tonight for Family Home Evening , we had a lesson on Love. We always sing " Love At Home ", which drives my children crazy, but until they learn lesson #1...Anyway, after my good husband read scriptures and told stories from Gordon B. Hinckley's book, Standing for Something: Ten Neglected Virtues That Will Heal Our Hearts and Homes , we wrote Valentines for our Grandmas and Grandpas. Each child wrote a little note, and my favorite was child #3's to Grandpa: "In May we could look at my Legos. XOXOXOXO's" Ahh. So loving. It's hard to see, but on this red card, I actually punched a heart out of the red paper and stamped on the white card behind it. These are actually the cards I whipped up (amazing what I can accomplish without interruption) at Jenn's house the other day. This next card challenge is a collaboration between Papertrey and Card Positioning Systems (CPS), which issues sketch challenges each week. I have tried and tried to copy and paste the sketch here, but to no avail. Anywho, this is my little (3 x 3) Valentine for the challenge. It was so much fun to stamp all day and spend time with some fellow Papertrey Ink fan(atic)s like myself who live in the area. I also got to meet Joan B. , who is so delightful. We had a wonderful lunch and a nice, relaxing stamping afternoon. Thank you so much, Jennifer, for opening your most beautiful home to us and for the wonderful treats, too. P.S. Today's challenge at PTI was to use 4 colors together: Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Ripe Avocado and Ocean Tides. I had to substitute everything but Pure Poppy, and I'm wondering why I haven't bought the other colors yet... Here's a masculine birthday card. I just cut strips of cardstock to make the stripes: Here is a feminine card with the same colors. I have a platter and bowl from Southern Living that I just love, which use all these colors. I have actually decorated my family room around these dishes. Again it makes me ask why I haven't bought Ocean Tides yet...Anyway, I used the chalkboard technique, which means I stamped everything in white ink, then pounced over the top of the images with chalk pastels. Papertrey Ink is celebrating its 2nd birthday this month, and Nichole Heady has issued a challenge to create a bag of some kind. Here's my contribution, a bag to hold a set of cards: I have used this template many times when giving sets of cards to friends. It's just a fun, paper version of a gift bag, and it will easily hold 10 cards and envelopes. The ribbon is threaded through eyelets, and I used the same format for the bag as I did for the cards (which you have seen before :). Here is the gift ensemble...
